Set between the sandy shores and rice fields of Carvalhal in Comporta, this serene one-bedroom retreat bungalow blends vernacular architecture with refined contemporary simplicity.
Modest in scale yet deliberate in design, the structure features whitewashed walls and terracotta rooflines resting lightly on dune-like terrain, bordered by native shrubs and Mediterranean vegetation. A wooden walkway leads toward a shaded pergola, where filtered light plays across lime-washed concrete and timber posts.
Inside, the palette is restrained and rooted in nature: sun-bleached wood, natural fibers, mineral tones, and handcrafted details. High ceilings and a clear, intentional layout lend a gentle rhythm to the open-plan interior.
Thoughtfully positioned for privacy, the bungalow is one of a pair, with a mirrored counterpart available for extended stays with family or friends.
Calmly contemporary and deeply contextual, this is a home that reflects the landscape with quiet reverence.

The open living and dining area is defined by volume, light and air. Painted timber beams stretch across the high ceiling, while large openings invite in the filtered glow of the surrounding pines and native scrubland. The seating area, assembled with built-in bohemian low-slung daybeds and soft linen cushions, creates a space that is both grounded and relaxed.
The open kitchen is seamlessly integrated into the architecture, with hand-finished pine cabinetry, open shelving and matte white finishes. Thoughtfully appointed with essentials for slow, simple meals, it echoes the same quiet intentionality found throughout the house.
A round wooden dining table sits beneath organic pendant lighting, casting subtle shadows that sway gently with the rhythm of the day. This understated visual cadence continues through the glass doors, which open onto a shaded terrace framed by yucca, pine and reed — a quietly beautiful space for lingering over a morning coffee or warm evening breeze.
The spacious bedroom unfolds as a retreat where form and stillness converge. A king-size bed rests beneath a pitched ceiling with suspended natural pendant lights. A standout tub grounds the suite, inviting long moments of rest and quiet indulgence.
A generous walk-in closet creates a functional transition into the ensuite bathroom. The atmosphere throughout the suite moves in quiet rhythm, attuned to the unhurried pace of Comporta’s coastal life.
